Synopsis



Dakar Sidewalks is the story of a burning love between Salla and Siirou in this microcosmic universe of Dakar's "sidewalks". The surrealist characters of a paradoxical theatre in the heart of the city are confused. Behind the facades of the wealthy neighbourhoods that lie alongside the slums, the "deal" is the rule, grace meets poverty, sensuality is omnipresent, violence too. Here all dreams are allowed, but sometimes they turn into a nightmare. The film features a group of adolescents without families, who are free but marginal, and who are confronted with new dreams and new projects, on the one hand, and adults who are involved in drug sales, on the other. Between delinquency and family life, how do they manage this dilemma? Hubert Laba invites us to discover what lies behind such a mystery.
