South African movie "Of Good Report" wins an award at AFRIFF

AFRIFF.jpgSouth Africa movies received a lot of recognition this year. Last week-end it was South African film "Of Good Report" turn to be under the spotlight. The South African movie has won the award for Best Feature Film at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Nigeria.

Director Jahmil X.T. Qubeka says: “I am honoured that our work has been given such an accolade by AFRIFF. Rather than an award I prefer seeing it as a call to arms. As an industry, Africa has much work to do".

afriqueconnectee_1.jpgGoogle’s new initiative, ‘Africa Connected: Success stories powered by the web’, objective is to collect the largest collection of inspiring stories about ventures established online by Africans, in Africa. Five of the most inspiring stories, including one selected by online voters, will each receive a $25,000 Africa Connected prize and will also have the opportunity to work with a Google sponsor over a six-month period.

Mandela -Long way to freedom at the TIFF

mandela.jpgThe film Mandela : Long way to Freedom had its first international screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 7.

Audience was totally moved by the movie and at the end of the screening, there was a eight-minute standing ovation ! The movie produced by Anant Singh presents the life of Nelson Mandela. His story is truly inspirinf. Born to be a Xhosa leader, he was trained in law, then drawn into resistance, then politics. Nelson Mandela has lived an extraordinary life.

African film discovery - Half of a Yellow Sun

African_film_discovery.jpg Half of a Yellow Sun is an adaptation of celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling novel of the same title, which won the Orange Broadbrand Prize for Fiction.

The Film premiere was at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival and receive great critics.

Directed by Biyi Bandele, Produced by BAFTA award winner Andrea Calderwood and Gail Ega, the film is a British/Nigerian co-production and was shot at Tinapa Film Studio in Nigeria and in the United Kingdom.
